Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol's DDLJ Statue Inaugural Event In London POSTPONED Amid India-Pakistan Conflict: Report

A grand celebration of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge's 30th anniversary by Aditya Chopra-led Yash Raj Films this week in London's iconic Leicester Square has now been postponed in light of India's military response under Operation Sindoor.

For those unversed, to honour Bollywood's most beloved romantic film, an event was organised to unveil a bronze statue featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s iconic DDLJ pose.

According to sources quoted by Zoom, the statue’s inauguration has been deferred following India’s strategic strikes against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, launched in response to the April terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.

An industry insider informed the news portal, "In keeping with the current situation and to express solidarity with the nation and its brave Army, the DDLJ statue launch has been postponed to a later time and date."

The bronze statue, which was set to join a lineup of global cinema icons at Leicester Square, including tributes to Harry Potter, Laurel & Hardy, Wonder Woman and Mr. Bean, was planned as a part of the legacy campaign for DDLJ, the longest-running film in Indian cinema history. The installation was also intended to acknowledge the popularity of Bollywood in the UK and among the global South Asian diaspora.

A new date for the unveiling has not yet been announced.

India-Pakistan conflict

Tension between India and Pakistan escalated after the latter launched drone and missile attacks across several Indian states, including Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir on May 8. Indian forces successfully neutralised each of these threats.

Escalation followed India's launch of Operation Sindoor -- a series of focused and precise strikes on nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) - in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people.
