A couple of days ago, Sonu Nigam made it to the headlines as a video from his Bengaluru concert went viral on social media. He was seen schooling a fan at the concert who was repeatedly demanding him to sing a Kannada song. An FIR has been filed against the singer at the Avalahalli Police Station in Bengaluru for allegedly making provocative statements and hurting the sentiments of Kannadigas. On Saturday, Nigam took to Instagram to share a video in which he has given a clarification about the whole scenario.
In the video, Sonu said, “Sirf chaar-panch gunday type the jo waha pe chilla rahe the. In fact, waha ke hazaron log unko mana bhi kar rahe the. (There were only 4-5 goons type guys who were shouting. In fact, people were telling them not to do it). There were girls who were telling them not to shout and disturb the scene. Unn paachon ko yeh batana aur yaad dilana zarori tha ke Pahalgam mein jab pant utari gayi thu, toh bhasha nahi puchi gayi thi (It was important to tell and make them recollect that when in Pahalgam people were asked to remove their pants, they were not asked about the language)." The singer further stated, “Kannadigas are very sweet people. But, at every place and state, there are a few people who are bad. So, it is important to let them know that they cannot threaten you as an audience to make you sing. I had come with a set of an hour of Kannada songs, but people who try to provocate others, it is important to stop them."
"Kannadigas are beautiful people, so don’t generalise them. There were only 4-5 guys who threatened me that too after the first song. They were not demanding, they were threatening. You can ask the people around," he added.
