The death of actress Kim Sae-Ron has sent the entire South Korean entertainment industry, and in yet another twist in the case, the Bloodhounds fame father has now accused a YouTuber for her suicide. Kim's father stated that the YouTuber made false claims about the actress in his videos, which troubled her and ultimately drove her to claiming her own life.
Kim was found dead in her Seoul apartment on February 16, and the local cops later confirmed it to be a case of suicide.
On her funeral, the actress' father said in a statement that a YouTuber had uploaded a video criticising Kim in January after she shared several wedding-themed photos on her social media handle. The video was titled, "Kim Sae-Ron’s self-deletion again… Gone into hiding after marriage rumours? Tried contacting her directly."
Prior to that, the YouTuber had also uploaded another video in which he claimed that the actress was working at a cafe in Seoul to make ends meet.
Kim's father stated that the YouTuber's videos resulted in public scrutiny and online attacks on the actress, who was already reeling with the aftermath of her infamous DUI incident.
The YouTuber has been identified as Lee Jin-Ho. Post the statement by Kim's father, he took down all the videos related to the actress from his YouTube channel. The bereaved family is reportedly now trying to gather related material and evidence to take legal action against the YouTuber.
Post Kim's death, several netizens and those close to the actress raised questions on South Korea's raging 'cancel culture', calling it one of the reasons which drove her to end her life.
For those unversed, Kim was embroiled in a major controversy in May 2022 after she rammed her car into several public structures including transformers, guard rails and trees, while driving in a drunken state in Gangnam.
She later issued an apology, but instead of being forgiven, she was slammed and criticised by the people of the country. The actress reportedly lost out on multiple projects and other work commitments, and was planning a comeback soon.
