Kian's Bizarre B&B Producer Reveals Reason Behind Casting Kim Seokjin On This Netflix Variety Show; Says 'Wasn’t Because Jin Is From BTS...'

BTS' Kim Seokjin, popularly called Jin, has made his much-anticipated return to the spotlight, and fans couldn't be more thrilled. The global superstar has stepped into an entirely new realm with the Netflix variety show Kian's Bizarre B&B, which premiered its first three episodes on April 8, 2025.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Ulleungdo Island, a volcanic gem in South Korea's East Sea, the show features stunning nature with offbeat reality entertainment. Featuring comedian Kian84, actress Ji Ye-eun, and Jin himself, Kian’s Bizarre B&B follows this trio as they run a quirky bed-and-breakfast, facing unpredictable challenges and hilarious adventures along the way.

But how did Jin end up as a part of this unique cast? Kian’s Bizarre B&B producer Jung Hyo-min has spilled the beans. At a press conference held on April 8, he shared insight into the casting process, revealing that Jin’s inclusion wasn't a straightforward celebrity pick. "It wasn’t just because Jin is from BTS. I thought that the human charm Jin possesses hasn’t even been shown to the public by a tenth. I thought, wouldn’t it be great if we could draw out Jin’s real charm?" said Jung Hyo-min, as quoted by Edaily Korea.

Surprisingly, Jin was approached for the show while he was still fulfilling his mandatory military service, sometime before June 2024. According to the producer, Jin had been an avid viewer of Kian84’s variety shows during his time in the army and had expressed interest in meeting the comic artist and entertainer in person.

"We were hoping Jin would choose to join, and it turns out that while he was in the military, he had watched a lot of Kian84’s variety shows and had thought he’d like to meet him. After being discharged, he even adjusted his existing schedule to free up nearly 10 days for filming on Ulleungdo," Jung Hyo-min revealed.

Furthermore, Jin's casting was kept a complete secret from both Kian84 and Ji Ye-eun. Their reactions to seeing Jin for the first time were caught live on camera, giving fans a raw and unfiltered moment.

"We didn’t even tell Kian84 or Ji Ye-eun that Jin had been cast. We wanted to capture the moment they met for the first time. You’ll be able to see everything from that awkward first meeting to the process of them becoming close," the producer said.
