Jaat Box Office Collection Day 1: Sunny Deol's Film Earns Less Than ₹10 Crore, Weekend Boost Expected

Actor Sunny Deol's latest release Jaat earned Rs 9.50 crore on its first day on April 10. Despite its slow start, the film is expected to see an uptick over the weekend, courtesy the strong word-of-mouth and positive reviews. The film marks Deol's return to theatres after 1.5 years, his last film being the blockbuster Gadar 2 in 2023.

Bollywood star Sunny Deol returned to the cinemas after 1.5 years with his latest release, Jaat, on Thursday (April 10). But despite the positive reviews on its first day, the film opened with less than Rs 10 crore at the box office.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Jaat earned Rs 9.50 crore on its first day, which is nowhere close to Sunny Deol's last film, Gadar 2, that had opened with Rs 40 crore. One of the reasons of Jaat's slow start could be its Thursday release, instead of the customary Friday. While the makers must have tried to bank on the Mahavir Jayanti bank holiday on Thursday, it clearly did not work in their favour.

However, Jaat has a strong word of mouth in the market, and it the critics and masses who watched it only have good things to say about the film. Audiences have termed the film as an out-and-out Sunny Deol power flick, and the film is laced with copious amounts of action, emotions, drama and dialoguebaazi.

It even has a reference to Sunny's iconic 'dhai kilo ka haath' dialogue, and videos of the audience cheering and hooting during the scene in theatres have now gone viral.

Jaat also stars Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, Ayesha Khan, Urvashi Rautela and others in key roles. While the film has begun its theatrical run on a low note, it is expected to see an uptick over the weekend, and we wonder if it will be able to surpass Salman Khan's much-hyped film Sikandar, which fell flat upon its release on Eid.
