'I Would Sit At Chowpatty, Drink Till 4 In The Morning': Johny Lever Says He Was A Drunkard; Reveals Police Used To Allow Him To Drink In Their Car

Johny Lever has been in the industry for more than four decades, and he has seen a lot of ups and downs. But, of course, there was a time when he was one of the most successful comedians in the industry, who was acting in films and performing on stage. Recently, during a candid conversation with comedians Sapan Verma, Aakash Gupta, and Jamie Lever (his daughter), the actor revealed that he was a drunkard and would sit at Chowpatty till 4 am and drink.

The Housefull 5 actor said, “I request people, limit mein piyo. I had crossed my limits, and it’s not worth it. I was a drunkard. I would sit at Chowpatty and drink till 4 in the morning. Many times, the police would come, but when they recognised me, they would laugh and say, ‘Arre, Johny bhai,’ and let me sit in their car to continue drinking safely.”

Johny Lever On How Success Can Be A Mess

The actor stated, “Success can mess with your mind. At one point, no movie was made without me. I was also doing international shows and constantly traveling. I lost myself in all of it."

The actor further revealed that eventually he decided to quit drinking, and for the last 24 years, he has not touched alcohol.

In 90s and early 2000s, there have been years in which Johny Lever had more than 10-15 releases per year. However, from the past few years, he has become selective and we don't get to see him in many films.

However, this year, we have already watched him in three movies: Badass Ravi Kumar, Be Happy, and Housefull 5. He will also be seen in Welcome To The Jungle. While the film is slated to release this year, the official release date is not yet announced.
