'I Wish Every Mammootty Of India Had A Friend Like Mohanlal': Javed Akhtar Slams 'Negative People' Over Sabarimala Puja Controversy
Javed Akhtar took to X to slam 'negative people' who are creating controversy over Mohanlal performing puja at Sabarimala temple for his friend Mammootty's health. The veteran writer praised the friendship between the two Malayalam stars and wrote, "I wish every Mamooty of India had a friend like Mohan Lal and every Mohan Lal had a friend like Mamooty (sic)."

Mohanlal performed a puja for Mammootty's health at Sabarimala temple recently, however, the move sparked controversy. On Wednesday, Javed Akhtar took to X to slam critics and praised the two Malayalam actors' friendship and bond. The veteran writer tweeted, "I wish every Mamooty of India had a friend like Mohan Lal and every Mohan Lal had a friend like Mamooty (sic)."
He further wrote, "It is obvious that their great friendship is beyond the understanding of some Small, narrow minded, petty and negative people but who cares (sic)." Check out the tweet below...
Soon, netizens reacted to Akhtar's post and a section of users also praised Mohanlal and Mammootty's friendship. A fan wrote, "Mamooty and Mohan Lal’s friendship is so legendary, it deserves its own cinematic universe. Who needs Marvel when you have these two?"
Another fan posted, "Our basement is much bigger than the walls of many. More than stars, they are icons of friendship and humanity. A much needed power in the times of hate in the name of religion. Mammootty and Mohanlal, forever a fan of them."
What's The Controversy?
Mohanlal visited Sabarimala temple on March 18, and a puja offering receipt with Mammootty’s birth name, Muhammed Kutty, went viral on social media. This hinted that the L2: Empuraan actor performed a ritual for Bramayugam actor. There were rumours that Mammootty is diagnosed with cancer, but the 73-year-old actor's team called the news 'fake'.
O Abdullah, an influencer and the former editor of a newspaper, in an audio message, shared on social media said that if Mammootty had asked Mohanlal to offer prayers on his behalf, the Turbo actor should apologise. He said, "According to Islamic beliefs, no one should offer anything to anyone except Allah."
Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan Releases Today
Meanwhile, Mohanlal is currently busy with the promotions of L2: Empuraan which has hit the big screens today. The movie, which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, is expected to take the box office by storm .
