While tensions have been high after a horrifying terror attack in Pahalgam, a quote from actress Dia Mirza supporting Pakistani actor Fawad Khan's return to Bollywood recently resurfaced and began circulating across media platforms. Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s much-anticipated Bollywood comeback Abir Gulal has landed in controversy following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. While tensions have been high, a quote from actress Dia Mirza supporting Fawad's return recently resurfaced and began circulating across media platforms. However, the actress issued a clarification, stating that she gave the interview several days before the terror attack.
On Thursday, Dia took to her Instagram stories to address the matter, urging the media to stop misrepresenting her views.
She wrote, "To members of the media, STOP misrepresentation of facts. I did an interview for a film of mine on the 10th of April in which I gave a quote. Long before this horrific terror attack. Stop circulating my quotes NOW weeks after and out of context. This is unethical and deeply offensive."
Dia's original quote was given during a promotional interview for her film, weeks before the tragedy. At the time, she had expressed support for Fawad's return to Indian cinema.
"It is a political question. If the circumstances to seek a ban on artists were completely... I’ve always believed that art is, and should always be, a medium of peace and harmony. We should never, ever allow art and sport to be tangled or mixed with hate. It’s just good that Fawad is back in the film—you know that we will be watching soon. I hope this leads to many more such opportunities for other collaborations,” Dia had reportedly told News 18.
On April 22, a horrific terrorist attack unfolded in broad daylight at a popular tourist spot in Pahalgam. According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants opened fire on unsuspecting tourists after reportedly questioning them about their religion.
The brutal assault claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including a local horse-rider who was shot while attempting to disarm one of the terrorists and protect the visitors.
