Comedian Abhishek Upamanyu was criticised on social media after he agreed to a Pakistani user on X, who said that Indians "deserve the racism" they face in the West. Post the backlash, Abhishek deleted his X account, and has maintained radio-silence on the fiasco.
It all began after internet personality Abhijit Iyer Mitra shared an abusive note on X for Pakistani women post the Pahalgam terror attack. Responding to it, a Pakistani X user wrote, "Zero class. Abuses is not equal to humour. The whole world sees your country as this hub of rapists and rightfully so. This is 'funny' according to the average Indian. You lot deserve all the racism you're facing in the west (sic)."
However, the tweet caught the attention of Indians after Abhishek seemingly agreed to the Pakistani user's stance, and wrote, "Yup", under it.
Within no time, it went viral and Abhishek was bashed left, right and centre for agreeing to the Pakistani user's views against India and Indians. "Wtf Abhishek Upmanyu !!! Ashamed to ever think your were good. You guys are so blind for hate towards everyone apposing your view they would literally SUPPORT A PAKISTANI in this critical time (sic)," a netizen wrote.
On Monday, netizens noticed that the comedian had deactivated his X account. He is yet to issue a statement on the backlash.
