'Big Hips Are Embarrassment': Jamie Lever Recalls Hurtful Remarks On Her Body, Says 'I Always Covered My Lower Body'
Actress Jamie Lever opened up about her struggles with body image and self-confidence in a candid conversation with actress Chhavi Mittal. She spoke about the harsh judgments and criticism she faced for her looks and revealed how they impacted her self-esteem over the years

Actress and comedian Jamie Lever, daughter of veteran comedian Johny Lever, recently opened up about her struggles with body image and self-confidence in a candid conversation with actress Chhavi Mittal on a podcast. Jamie spoke about the harsh judgments and criticism she faced for her looks and revealed how they impacted her self-esteem over the years.
Jamie shared that growing up, she was often mocked for her nose, with people constantly telling her it was 'too big'. However, a particularly hurtful comment from a makeup artist during a photoshoot left a lasting impact on her confidence.
Recalling the incident, she said, "One day, I was doing a photoshoot, and the makeup artist said, 'Iska cutting karna padega, naak bahut bada hai' (We’ll have to contour this, her nose is too big). It breaks you. It's like you are never going to be good enough."
Battling PCOS and weight struggles
Jamie also opened up about her weight struggles, revealing that she was obese as a child and had a long, challenging weight-loss journey due to PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). During the conversation, she revealed that constant remarks about her body made her self-conscious, leading her to cover up her figure.
"I was always told big hips are an embarrassment, and you have to cover them up. So, growing up, I always covered my lower body with longer t-shirts and kurtis. I always had a wardrobe like that," she shared.
After years of battling insecurities, Jamie said she finally embraced her body and curves, realising that they were beautiful in their own way.
She credited the global shift in beauty standards and pop culture influences, saying, "It has taken me a lot of years to realise that this is beautiful. My curves are beautiful, and people aspire to have a body like that. And also, I would give some credit to the Kardashians, who made the booty really famous. After that, people started saying, 'Wow, actually curves look beautiful.' It’s taken a lot of time to be comfortable in my skin."
