Bihar Viral Video: In a heartwarming and culturally evocative send-off ceremony at a Begusarai middle school in Bihar, two favourite teachers—Amita Kumari and Rajhans Kumar- were bid farewell with the emotional power of a vidaai, the poignant send-off practised in bride send-offs.
Appointed to Head Teacher roles through the Bihar Public Service Commission, the two teachers were about to assume new posts at other schools when the school community organized a deeply meaningful farewell on August 7, 2025. In a poignant show of cultural respect, Amita Kumari was draped in a ceremonial chunari while women colleagues performed rituals usually reserved for a leaving daughter: "khoicha bharai" (filling the lap with gifts) and "chumawan" (wishing blessings). Concurrently, Rajhans Kumar was sitting in groom-like attire, putting the finishing touches to the vidaai scene.
According to the NDTV report, students showered flower petals on the teachers as they bid farewell to the premises, symbolizing the touching moment when a bride leaves her home. The function was full of emotional moments, hugs, and genuine thankfulness.
Principal Shrikrishna Das informed NDTV, "Today's programme was really grand. This is how a teacher should be bid farewell… we were able to see a glimpse of that rapport today." He encouraged the pair to maintain their devotion and earn even more respect in their new positions.
Art instructor Upendra Chaudhary further commented, as quoted by NDTV, that such considerate farewells provide a clear indication of pride in Bihar. Both teachers were given traditional clothing, diaries, garlands, pens, and flower bouquets as gestures of gratitude.
With this richly cultural act, the school not only bid goodbye to two committed teachers but also welcomed the strong, near-familial relationship between teachers and school community—transcending a regular goodbye to become a shared practice of tradition, pride, and respect.
