A college student from Indore's Shri Nagar Extension area was grievously injured in a horrifying stray dog attack early on Saturday morning, July 12, when she was going for an exam. The footage of the incident, captured on CCTV, has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread concern over public safety.
According to media reports, the incident took place at about 6:30 AM, when the student, with a friend, was walking towards her college. Four stray dogs suddenly attacked her. While she first attempted to repel them by defending herself, the dogs pulled her down and bit her legs, leaving her grievously injured.
Though she was able to flee temporarily, the same pack of dogs regrouped and returned, having a second, more brutal attack. The CCTV images record the horrifying scenes as the young woman was pulled to the ground screaming for help.
As per statistics of Hukumchand Government Hospital, more than 24,000 cases of dog bites have been registered in Indore from January 1 to July 13, 2025, according to the media reports. Though the majority of the victims recovered following anti-rabies treatment, the high frequency of such attacks keeps increasing.
Residents are also reaching out to city authorities to intensify stray dog control measures and impose penalties on people who irresponsibly dispose of food waste, which tends to attract stray animals. The online video has further intensified the call for immediate action and stricter animal management regulations in the city.
