IIT Bombay Hosts Annual CSR Conclave 2025, Showcases 276 Tech-Driven Projects For Nation-Building

Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) conducted its Annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Conclave 2025 on June 6 at its Powai campus. Centred on the theme “Fuelling Technology for Nation Building,” the event brought together over 500 attendees, including more than 230 corporate representatives, academics, philanthropists, and students.

The event outlined IIT Bombay’s approach to CSR, which emphasises two key principles: measurable societal impact through strong governance, and the use of technology in nation-building efforts.

In his keynote address, Professor Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, stated that the institute has developed a CSR ecosystem that supports transparent, accountable partnerships. “Our strong governance framework and robust compliance mechanisms give corporate partners the confidence they seek. We’re structured to move with the pace, accountability and professionalism that CSR collaborations demand,” he said.

During the 2024–25 financial year, the institute formalised 81 new CSR partnerships. Over 140 companies contributed to projects spanning research and development, infrastructure, Centres of Excellence, faculty positions, and student scholarships. The institute aims to align more corporate CSR efforts with its technology-driven initiatives.

A key highlight of the Conclave was the release of the Annual CSR Catalogue 2025, which presents 276 ready-to-implement projects. These cover areas such as healthcare, education, sustainability, rural development, women’s empowerment, social policy, and skill-building.

Ashank Desai, tech entrepreneur, philanthropist, and IIT Bombay alumnus, served as Chief Guest. In his address, he said, “India must lead the global economy in both GDP growth and scientific innovation. That’s how we become a truly developed nation by 2047.”

He urged companies to see CSR as long-term investment in the country's scientific capabilities rather than an obligation. “If IIT does well, society benefits—directly or indirectly. That, too, is giving back,” he added.

The day included panel discussions on philanthropic funding for innovation and ways to enhance collaboration between industry and academia. Focused sessions covered artificial intelligence, healthcare innovation, sustainability, and grassroots efforts. The Conclave also featured a felicitation ceremony to acknowledge notable CSR contributors.
