HSNC University’s Fit Bharat Club Team Completes Epic 1450 km Cycle Rally in Support of ‘Fit Bharat Mission’ and Tribal Communities

HSNC University, Mumbai, at the forefront of championing social causes, this week orchestrated a 21-member 7-day 1450 km ‘Centre to Coast’ cycle rally with a triple-point mission: spreading awareness on sustainable living, active health and environmental consciousness.

Flagging off the rally on 18^th January 2025, Col. Dr. Hemlata K. Bagla, Vice Chancellor, HSNC University shared, "This cycle rally is not just about riding from Delhi to Mumbai. It's about creating change, raising awareness and making an impact. Through this mission, we are showing that simple changes, like cycling instead of using cars, can significantly benefit our environment and well-being. The rally shows how individual actions can lead to collective change, fostering a culture of environmental consciousness and responsible resource usage”.

In line with their mission to promote environmental sustainability, the cyclists planted over 1,400 seeds in tribal regions along their route, contributing to ecological restoration and community welfare. The ride concluded in Mumbai on Republic Day, where an enthusiastic reception awaited the bikers, highlighting the unity and support from students towards the cause. They were received and felicitated by Provost Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani,  Col. Dr. Hemlata K. Bagla, along with the Deans and Registrar of HSNC University.

The achievement coincided with HSNC University’s 76^th Republic Day celebrations, underscoring the institution’s commitment to fostering health, environmental consciousness, sustainability and social responsibility.

The remarkable initiative was sponsored by HSNC University ensuring its smooth execution and impactful outreach. The comprehensive support provided by HSNC University included a fully sponsored and supported cycle ride from Delhi to Mumbai; medical assistance, including a doctor and ambulance to accompany the cyclists; healthy meals and essential medicines for the participants; distribution of 1500 seeds to be sown in tribal areas, empowering local communities with sustainable resources and a team of technical assistants to ensure the ride’s smooth operation

Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani said “The cycle rally was more than just a physical challenge; it served as a platform to raise awareness on issues of environmental sustainability and personal well-being. The event brought together students, faculty and staff in a collective effort to promote a healthier, greener future. The initiative also emphasised the importance of small lifestyle changes to combat environmental degradation. By choosing bicycles over cars and adopting active lifestyles, participants demonstrated how individuals can contribute positively to both the environment and their health”.

The cycle rally was led by Mayur Dhumasia, an inspiring individual who, despite losing his right forearm in a tragic train accident, has always demonstarted immense courage and self-belief. Mayur, who now stands as a shining symbol of resilience, was offered a position as an Assistant Professor by HSNC University’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Hemlata K. Bagla, who noticed a spark in him over 6 years back.

Launched in 2022 by Vice Chancellor Dr. Hemlata K. Bagla, HSNC University’s Fit Bharat Club has been a driving force behind promoting physical and mental wellness through activities like yoga, sports and workshops. By creating a supportive and engaging community, the club helps both students and faculty lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

This incredible cycle rally is a powerful reminder that environmental sustainability and personal health go hand in hand and small shifts in behaviour can have a significant positive impact on the planet.
