CLAT 2025: Supreme Court Orders Transfer Petitions To Punjab And Haryana High Court

The Supreme Court has issued its order in the petitions which are challenging the CLAT 2025 results which were held on December 1, 2024. It has shown inclination to transfer all the petitions in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

At present, such petitions questioning CLAT 2025 results are pending in different High Courts which include Delhi High Court, Karnataka High Court, Jharkhand High Court, Rajasthan High Court, Bombay High Court, Madhya Pradesh High Court, and Punjab & Haryana High Court.

The Bench of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, Justice PV Sanjay Kumar issues a notice for transfer petitions of the Consortium of National Law Universities, seeking all its petitions consolidated under one roof; either at Supreme Court or to one single High Court.

The consortium had sought consolidating all their petitions into either the Supreme Court or a single high court.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta supported the transfer and suggested Karnataka High Court as an alternative. However, CJI Khanna pointed out that the first petition was filed in Punjab and Haryana and commended the court's efficiency.

Some of the student side counsel moved the transfer to Delhi High Court with a reference to an order from Delhi High Court regarding two wrong answers in the CLAT-UG 2025. Upon one advocate's plea, CJI Khanna observed, "Law students should not fold their hands," while addressing their sincere appeals.

The bench ruled that all pending petitions should be dealt with by a single High Court for quicker resolution. The court issued a notice for the cases to be heard in the week beginning February 3, 2025, with notices to be served to counsels representing petitioners in different High Courts. The bench suggested a preference for transferring the cases to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
