The Noida International Airport (NIAL), or the Jewar Airport, as it is popularly known, is gearing for its much-awaited 'take-off'. The airport is slated to be operational in 2025. Recently, the upcoming airport made it to the news when it conducted its first flight validation test on December 9.
As many in NCR look forward to the opening of the new airport in Uttar Pradesh, we take a look at the factors that could make this project, a deal, bigger than it is.
Location, Location, Location
The location of the airport is crucial. It is expected to cater to the National Capital Region or the NCR, particularly its major cities, including Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghazaibad and Noida.
The airport is situated about 7 km north of Jewar city in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddha Nagar. This district this closely located to Delhi. This, therefore would aid commuting and taking loads off the Indira Gandhi International Aiport or the Delhi Airport.
Will Air Travel Be Cheaper?
Given its location, the reduced load on Delhi Airport would aid teh airport further. As per reports. the tickets would be priced attractively with governmental backing. As per reports, the Uttar Pradesh government may reduce the price of tickets by bestowing a 15-20 per cent subsidy.
NIAL's Colossal Capacity
Air travellers in and around the region would be aided by the airports capacity. The airport is being constructed over a 14,000 sq ft space. In addition, after the completion of the first phase in April 25, the airport will have an annual capacity of 1.2 crore passengers. This is expected to be expanded to 3 crore and more.
Connecting Journeys
As per reports, the authorities in the Northern state will run dedicated bus services from Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad from April 2025.
The fleet would initially have a capacity of 100 buses. The fleet size is further expected to be expanded to 250.
Furthermore, Metro-Expressway-Pod Taxi is also in the pipeline, further aiding passengers.

Although the airport's domestic destinations have yet to be decided, three international flights are fixed for Zurich, Singapore, Dubai.
Currently, the country's busiest airport, the Delhi Airport handles 7.36 crore passengers annually. The Mumbai Airport handles 5.28 crore passengers. In addition, the Bengaluru Airport handles up to 3.75 crore passengers.
