Tourism Season Crashes In J-K, Katra Stakeholders Seek Urgent Relief
Tourism in J-K has collapsed after the Pahalgam terror attack. Stakeholders in Katra want urgent relief, including EMI deferrals and revival plans, to help the sector recover from financial shock during peak season.

Jammu: The tourism season in Jammu and Kashmir has completely collapsed after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. A body representing tourism stakeholders in Katra, the base for Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims, raised the alarm on Saturday.
The Chamber of Tourism, Trade and Industry Katra (CTTIK) said that tourist arrivals have dropped suddenly, causing a big economic crisis in many sectors. The chamber has urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to announce a relief package to help businesses survive.

In response, Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. This led to a tense military stand-off between the two countries.
The CTTIK held a special meeting and passed a resolution condemning the Pahalgam attack. The resolution also praised the courage of Indian forces during “Operation Sindoor”. It expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the terror attack and shelling by Pakistan.

The worst part, the chamber said, is that this violence happened during April and May, which is the peak tourist season. With tourists cancelling trips, many hoteliers, transporters, traders, and others are in financial trouble.
The chamber asked the government to provide a relief package. Their demands include:
EMI relief on term loans for at least 6 months
Lower interest on loans and working capital
Delay in electricity bills and other state payments
They also want a clear tourism revival plan. This should include promotional campaigns and support for tour operators and hotels.
The chamber said the government must act fast to bring back tourist confidence and help businesses recover.
President Raj Kumar Padha said government support is now urgent to prevent long-term damage to the region’s economy.
