Threat To Cotton Yarn Industry: India Consults Indonesia On Extension Of Safeguard Measures; Rejects Indonesia's Import Control Decision
On May 24, concerns about a serious threat to domestic industries producing cotton yarn were raised in a notification circulated by the Committee on Safeguards. This notification was addressed to WTO members by Indonesia.

India consulted its south-east Asian neighbour, Indonesia, on extension of safeguard measures as per the World Trade Organization rules. Indonesia wants to have import control on cotton yarn at World Trade Organization. This proposed decision faced opposition from India.
On May 24, Concerns about a serious threat to domestic industries producing cotton yarn were raised in a notification circulated by the Committee on Safeguards. This notification was addressed to WTO members by Indonesia.
As per provisions of the WTO's Agreement on Safeguards, India has requested consultation with Indonesia, to review and exchange views on the extension of the measure.
From June 10 To June 13 or any mutually convenient date and time, India has proposed consultations via virtual mode.
