New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has issued new and strict guidelines for train travelers that are crucial to understand. As of May 1, 2025, passengers found traveling in reserved coaches with only a waiting list ticket will now face hefty fines and possible removal from the train. This move is aimed at enhancing transparency, safety, and convenience for genuine ticket holders.

Heavy Penalty for Traveling with Waiting Ticket

Many passengers were previously traveling in reserved class compartments with a waiting ticket, assuming partial legitimacy. However, under the new directive, this will no longer be tolerated. If a passenger is caught traveling in a reserved class without a confirmed ticket, they will not only be charged the full fare but also face a significant penalty.

TTE Authorized to Remove Passengers

The Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) now has the authority to remove unauthorized travelers from the train. This is a part of the stricter enforcement beginning May 1, 2025. Indian Railways has stated that this measure is essential to maintain discipline, order, and fairness in reserved compartments.

Avoid Traveling with Only Waiting List Ticket

Passengers are advised not to board trains with just a waiting list ticket, whether purchased online or from the railway booking counter. Such tickets are not valid for travel in reserved classes, and violations will lead to monetary and legal consequences. Only confirmed tickets ensure the right to occupy reserved seats.

Railways Working Towards Safer and Transparent Travel

Indian Railways continues its efforts to make train journeys safer, more efficient, and fair for all. These new measures are part of broader initiatives to improve travel experiences and prevent misuse of the reservation system.
