Mumbai: A new survey by Future Generali India Insurance has found that over 80 per cent of people who have health insurance are not confident about their coverage. The main reason is the rising cost of hospital treatment and medical care in India.
The survey is called Health Unlimited. It was conducted among 800 people aged 25 and above. It shows that two out of every three insured people feel worried and underprepared when they actually make a claim. Many of them get surprised by large bills that are not fully covered by their insurance.
A big concern is that hospital bills are growing fast. The survey said that India had one of the highest medical inflation rates in Asia in 2021. It was around 14 per cent more than countries like China, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
Anup Rau, Managing Director and CEO of Future Generali India Insurance Company Ltd, said that this is a serious issue. “Even though people have health insurance, they are still stressed about medical bills,” Rau said. He added that the rising cost of treatment is making people feel insecure.
The survey also found that nine out of ten policyholders think that having a recharge or refill option for the sum insured is very important. This means they want their insurance coverage to be refilled if it gets used up.
To address this issue, the company has launched a new health insurance plan called Health Unlimited. According to Rau, this plan helps people by offering unlimited restoration of the sum insured. This starts from the second claim onwards.
This means that even if someone uses up their insurance cover, it gets recharged again for more claims in the same year. Rau said this plan will give full financial protection and peace of mind to policyholders.
The goal is to make sure people are never left without coverage, even when medical bills are high.
