Apple is likely to introduce the new iPhone 17 series at its annual September event this fall. The series may include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max variants. While these naming schemes are not new, there is one more variant that Apple is heavily leaked to unveil – the iPhone 17 Air. This new variant is pegged to be lighter and thinner than the rest. It may be Apple’s slimmest phone ever. This phone is rumoured to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge launched earlier this year.
iPhone 17 Air: Expected Weight, Thickness
The iPhone 17 Air is pegged to be the lightest-ever and thinnest-ever smartphone from Apple. It is tipped to weigh only at 146 grams. The phone will also come with FaceID and biometric authentication. It is reported to be 5.5mm thick.
Instead of titanium that is used on the iPhone 16 Pro series, Apple is likely to use 7000 series aluminum alloy for the iPhone 17 Air framing to reduce the weight. The frame could weigh about 30 grams. The battery is likely to weigh 35 grams and even the 120Hz OLED display may weigh the same as the battery.
iPhone 17 Air: Expected Display, Processor
The iPhone 17 Air is reported to have 120Hz refresh rate but won’t support ProMotion. This means that it will not support an adaptive refresh rate. It is likely to feature a 6.6-inch and may replace the Plus model that is currently available in the iPhone 16 series. The iPhone 17 Air is likely to be powered by the A19 chip from Apple and pack 8GB RAM.

iPhone 17 Air: Expected Battery
Because of its slim form factor, the iPhone 17 Air is said to pack a 2,800mAh battery. While this seems very less, Apple is reportedly looking to integrate a silicon-carbon battery that could enable the iPhone 17 Air to offer better battery life than was previously expected. The phone is said to support wireless (MagSafe) charging as well.
There have been reports that Apple is likely to bring a new version of its discontinued Smart Battery Case, just for the iPhone 17 Air. Early reports suggested that the iPhone 17 Air may have the ‘worse’ battery life than the other models in the iPhone 17 lineup. Internal testing reportedly found out that only 60 percent to 70 percent of users will be able to go a single day without charging the thin iPhone.
iPhone 17 Air: Expected Camera, Other Specs
iPhone 17 Air is likely to sport a single 48-megapixel rear camera and a 24-megapixel selfie camera. It is said to sport a USB Type-C port and offer Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth support.
iPhone 17 Air: Expected Price in India
Reports suggest that the tariff restrictions and changes could force Apple to increase the price tag on the iPhone 17 range. If this isn’t the case, the iPhone 17 is likely to be priced the same as the iPhone 16 Plus, which was launched for Rs. 89,999 in India last year.
