Haryana to Add 1,025 New Buses To State Transport Fleet, Metro & Heliport Projects Announced

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday announced that the state government will add 1,025 new buses to its transport fleet, including electric, AC, and non-AC variants. The initiative aims to modernize public transport and improve commuter convenience.

The government will procure 500 non-AC buses with BS-6 standards, 150 AC buses, and 375 electric buses. The move aligns with the state's commitment to improving public transport infrastructure and reducing pollution by increasing the number of electric vehicles in the fleet.

Saini emphasized the government's focus on enhancing transport facilities, modernizing bus depots, and promoting electric mobility. To improve bus travel efficiency, a live tracking system will be implemented, providing real-time updates similar to railway tracking services.

Modern Bus Depots Under PPP Model

To further enhance passenger experience, the Haryana government will develop modern bus depots under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in key locations. These include Pipli, Karnal, Sector-36 (Gurugram), Ballabhgarh (Faridabad), and Sonipat. Additionally, a new transport building will be constructed at a cost of Rs 71 crore.

The Chief Minister also announced a special provision for "Divyang citizens" (persons with disabilities), ensuring free travel on state transport buses.

Push for Electric Vehicles in Government Departments

In line with its green mobility vision, the Haryana government plans to introduce electric vehicles in government departments and expand Haryana Roadways’ electric bus fleet for long-distance travel. The state aims to have 30 per cent of its transport fleet running on electric vehicles within the next five years.

Another major policy shift will be the replacement of annual motor vehicle tax with a lifetime tax, simplifying tax payments for vehicle owners.

Expansion of Metro Connectivity in Haryana

The Chief Minister also outlined major metro projects to improve urban transport connectivity. A metro line from Millennium City Centre to Cyber Hub in Gurugram will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 5,500 crore.

Under the "Namo Metro Corridor," the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) will develop a metro route connecting Sarai Kale Khan (Delhi) to Neemrana (Rajasthan) via Dharuhera. Additionally, another Namo Metro line is proposed to link Sarai Kale Khan to Karnal.

Several new metro projects are under study, including:

- Bahadurgarh to Asoda

- Ballabhgarh to Palwal

- Vatika Chowk to Pachgaon (Gurugram)

Furthermore, an Intercity Express Metro will be introduced, connecting Bata Chowk (Faridabad) to Sector 56 (Gurugram), significantly improving intercity transit.

Gurugram to Get a Heliport for Regional Connectivity

In a major infrastructure push, a heliport will be developed on 16 acres of land in Gurugram. This heliport will facilitate helicopter services connecting key locations such as Salasar, Khatushyamji, Pitambari Mata, and Chandigarh.
