New Delhi: Central government employees who are currently under the National Pension System (NPS) have time till June 30 to decide whether they want to move to the new Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). UPS offers a fixed monthly pension after retirement, which is not available in NPS. Below is all the important information about UPS.

Who can choose UPS?

All central government employees who are covered under NPS and are working on April 1, 2025, can choose to switch to UPS. The new scheme will start from that date.

Main Benefits of UPS

Fixed Monthly Pension: You will get 50 percent of the average basic salary of your last 12 months before retirement, as monthly pension — but only if you have completed 25 years of qualifying service.

Minimum Pension: If you retire after completing at least 10 years of service, you will get a minimum pension of Rs 10,000 every month.

Family Pension: If the retired employee dies, the spouse will receive 60 percent of the pension amount.

Dearness Relief (DR): Like Dearness Allowance (DA) for working employees, pensioners under UPS will also get DR on their pension.

Lump Sum Benefit: At retirement, for every 6 months of qualifying service, 10 percent of the basic salary will be given as a lump sum amount.
