- Man forced to sell Rs 84 lakh car for Rs 2.5 lakh.

- Many people now rushing to buy expensive electric cars.

New Delhi: From July 1, 2025, the Delhi government started a new rule. Now, petrol cars older than 15 years and diesel cars older than 10 years cannot get fuel at petrol pumps in Delhi. This rule is based on the order of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to help reduce air pollution in the city.

However, this strict rule has created big problems for many car owners.

Rs 84 Lakh Mercedes Sold for Just Rs 2.5 Lakh

One such person is Varun Vij, a resident of Delhi, as per the Money Control report, In 2015, he bought a Mercedes-Benz ML350 SUV for Rs 84 lakh. The car had only been driven 1.35 lakh kilometres, and it was still in good condition.

But because of the new rule, no one was ready to buy his old diesel car. In the end, he had to sell it for just Rs 2.5 lakh.

Varun said, “This car was like family to me. I used to drive it 7–8 hours every week to pick up my son from hostel. It only needed regular service and new tyres, but still, I had to let it go at a very low price.”

Switch to Electric Vehicles

After selling his car, Varun bought a new electric car for Rs 62 lakh. He said, “I want to use this car for 20 years, unless the government changes rules again.”

Varun also mentioned that many other people called him with the same problem. They were confused and didn’t know what to do with their cars.

A Tough Rule with Side Effects

This rule is meant to reduce air pollution, but it is also causing financial loss to many people. They are either selling old vehicles at throwaway prices or spending a lot of money to buy electric vehicles.
