Cybercrime Risk: Petrol Pump Owners Halt UPI, Card Payments
From Saturday, 10 May 2025, payment by UPI and card will be stopped at petrol pumps in the country due to increasing cyber-criminal activity. Petrol pump owners in Nagpur, Maharashtra, have decided not to accept any kind of digital payment. More than 60% of fuel payments are made online, and banning them has reportedly caused inconvenience to the people.

Due to online frauds and Cyber-Criminal activity, lakhs of petrol pump owners and petroleum companies of the country have decided to halt payments by UPI and card at petrol pumps from Saturday, 10 May 2025, in the country.
With the increasing tensions between India and Pakistan, Cyber-criminals are on the rise. According to the Vidarbha Petroleum Dealers Association, petrol pump owners are suffering huge losses due to the rapidly increasing cyber fraud.
According to the report, petrol pump owners in many cities of the country have banned UPI, debit-credit card payments and other digital transactions.
Petrol pump owners in Nagpur, Maharashtra, have decided not to accept any kind of digital payment. More than 60% of fuel payments are made online and banning them has reportedly caused inconvenience to the people.
Earlier, petrol pump owners of Nagpur had suffered a loss of lakhs of rupees due to these cyber criminals, says the report. However,when a small amount of payment did not go through petrol pump owners ignored it, but when this amount increased, it caused concern and hence, they decided to completely ban any kind of digital or card payment.
