New Delhi: India’s digital identity system has hit a new high. Aadhaar face authentication clocked an all-time record of 19.36 crore transactions in July 2025, marking a more than threefold jump from the same month last year. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology says this surge reflects India’s growing comfort with AI-powered, contactless verification for everything from welfare benefits to job applications.
Month-on-Month Rise Continues
July’s numbers were 22 percent higher than June 2025, showing rapid adoption. On July 1, the system recorded its highest single-day usage ever—1.22 crore transactions—surpassing the earlier record of 1.07 crore set in March.
Who is Powering the Growth?
More than 150 entities are using Aadhaar face authentication, including:
- Government ministries and departments for public service delivery
- Banks and NBFCs for customer verification
- Oil companies for subsidy-linked services
- Telecom providers for secure SIM activation
The system works on both Android and iOS devices, making it easy to use nationwide.
Boost to Welfare Delivery
The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) now uses face authentication to allow beneficiaries to get social security benefits securely. In July alone, 13.66 lakh people used it to confirm their identity.
In Colleges and Recruitment
All 850 medical colleges under the National Medical Commission (NMC) have made face authentication mandatory for attendance. Recruitment bodies like the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) use it to verify candidates.
