Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh’s BJP Minister Vijay Shah drew nationwide criticism for controversial remarks over Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. Reacting to the insulting comments against the India's brave army officer, Congress leader Manoj Shukla smeared black ink on nameplate of minister Shah's residence.

The dramatic protest was carried out on Tuesday night when Congressman Shukla reached outside Shah’s residence in Bhopal with his supporters and raised slogans against him. 

He demanded Vijay Shah's resignation and echoed, “Vijay Shah istifa do…..Bhartiya sena ke samman me, Congress maidan me…(Vijay Shah must resign.... .For the Indian Armed Force’s respect, us Congressmen protest).”

Criticism from entire nation

His speech was also recorded in a video which quickly went viral on social media. Not just the netizens, but Shah was slammed by the veteran political leaders and journalists. 

Even a senior journalist, Rajdeep Sardesai, took to his official X handle and termed the comment as "Utterly derogatory, communal and sexist remark."

Additionally, Shah’s video has attracted numerous negative comments from the netizens demanding his termination and legal action against him.

Vijay Shah ‘ready to apologise 10 times’

However, Shah has since sought to calm tensions by extending multiple apologies. He stated, “Sister Sophia has brought immense pride to India by transcending barriers of caste and religion."

"She commands greater respect than even our own sisters. I wholeheartedly salute her dedication and service to the nation. We could never even imagine disrespecting her, not even in our dreams. Yet, if my words have caused any hurt to society or religious sentiments, I am ready to apologise not once, but 10 times,” he concluded.

VD Sharma assures action on matter

BJP state president VD Sharma addressed the issue, emphasizing the party’s swift and serious response.

“The BJP leadership is extremely sensitive towards such matters. As soon as the issue came to light, discussions were held immediately. Our leadership took immediate cognisance of the situation,” Sharma said while speaking to the media.

With netizens flooding internet condemnation against minister Vijay Shah, Artificial Intelligence also took its part in validating the incident and acknowledging user’s negative reaction on the same.

X’s AI Grok wrote, “The video you shared appears to reference a real incident. On May 13, 2025, BJP minister Kunwar Vijay Shah made comments about Col. Sofia Qureshi during a public event, which were widely criticized as communal and derogatory. Reports suggest his remarks implied a link between Col. Qureshi and Pakistan-based terrorists, sparking backlash.”

At the same time, another AI platform Ask Perplexity wrote, “Hey there! The tweet you're asking about touches on a couple of serious incidents. These comments drew widespread criticism for being offensive and communal. Mr. Shah later stated his remarks were misconstrued and expressed readiness to apologize.”
