Unborn Declared Dead At Govt Hospital In Satna, Born Healthy Hours Later At Private Clinic

Satna (Madhya Pradesh): An unborn child who was declared dead by doctors at a Government District Hospital in Satna was later born healthy at a private clinic on Wednesday.

The child was declared dead at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel hospital in Satna.

According to information, the pregnant woman was told by government doctors that her baby had no heartbeat and was no longer alive.

Distraught, the family sought a second opinion at a nearby private clinic, where doctors found the baby alive and immediately carried out a successful delivery.

Durga Dwivedi (24), a resident of Chakera village, was first admitted to local civil hospital with labor pains. She was referred to the district hospital around 4 am. At 9 am, a senior doctor examined her using doppler and failed to detect the baby's heartbeat. Sonography also reportedly showed no movement. The doctors advised immediate abortion.

Durga’s husband Rahul Dwivedi sought a second opinion. They visited a diagnostic center where the sonography revealed that the baby was healthy. Later, Durga was admitted to a private clinic where a cesarean delivery was successfully conducted, and a 3.5 kg healthy baby was born.

Dr. Manju Singh, in-charge of the government hospital’s maternity wing, concluded that both Doppler and sonography failed to detect fetal heartbeat. However, CMHO confirmed that the matter is under investigation. A letter has been sent to the Medical College Dean and Civil Surgeon and action will be taken based on the findings.

Three doctors, Dr. Nilofar Sheikh, Dr. Ekta Mishra, and Dr. Parvati Prajapati are reportedly under investigation as the case unfolds.
