UCC Waste Not Shifted Because Of New Year In Bhopal
Govt has to file report in HC on January 3 as HC had given 4 weeks time to clean up the UCC plant

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Union Carbide Corporation (UCC)’s 337 MT chemical waste has not been transported to Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL), Pithampur, because of New Year.
Police officials said that police deployment to maintain law and order and to check New Years revelers at night was a major challenge so UCC waste has not been transported.
Commissioner of police Harinarayan Mishra as well as commissioner Gas Relief Swatanra Kumar Singh confirmed it stating, “UCC waste will not be shifted today.” Police commissioner Mishra said, “UCC waste will not be transported tonight.”
Swatantra Kumar Singh had earlier announced that UCC waste would be transported before New Year. But now, on eve of New Year he said, “No shifting today.” Green Corridor will be developed from Bhopal to Pithampur via 80 km stretch of Sehore for transportation so police force will be provided for it.
Collection and loading of chemical waste was started from Sunday morning after Madhya Pradesh High Court for incineration at REEL, Pithampur. Loading has been done in REEL’s 12 containers.
