Shahdol (Madhya Pradesh): A man and a woman were killed in an attack by wild elephants in Shahdol on Monday.

The incident is of the Beohari forest range of Shahdol district’s North Forest Division.

According to local reports, the elephants trampled both victims. Forest officials reached the spot and have started an investigation.

The incident took place on Monday in the Sanousi beat of the Godwal forest range. Officials confirmed that the deaths happened but said they are still investigating the exact cause.

Full details are yet to be collected, and the forest department said it would give a clear statement after completing the probe.

Locals said the victims died due to being trampled by elephants. Villagers also said that herds of elephants have been moving around the area for the past two years.

These elephants not only damage crops but have now started posing a threat to human lives as well.

The forest department has been trying to stop people from going near the elephants and has been spreading awareness in the area. However, the elephants continue to enter villages and cause damage wherever they go. This has created fear and trouble for the local villagers.

To deal with the increasing human-elephant conflict, the forest department has made a plan and sent a proposal to the government. But work on it has not started yet.

With elephant movement growing, officials say there is now an urgent need for a permanent solution to protect villagers and their farms from such dangerous incidents.
