Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): More than 750 farmers from the Gwalior-Chambal region were cheated out of Rs 7.23 crores after selling their paddy crops.

Farmers are now on an indefinite strike at Krishi Mandi and demanding payment for their produce. The scam involves traders who, in collusion with Mandi officials, purchased paddy from farmers but failed to provide full payment.

Instead, the traders stored the crops in warehouses and even secured loans against them. Many farmers have reported losses ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.

The fraudulent activities took place between October and January. The then Mandi secretary, Kadam Singh Jatav, alongside traders from Durga Devi and Jaigurudev Trading, conspired to lure farmers with promises of higher prices.

After the sale, they manipulated payment records, issuing false receipts while withholding the actual payments.

Despite the police registering a case against seven individuals, including the former Mandi secretary, farmers still await compensation.

As wheat procurement begins, farmers have locked the mandis and demanded that the properties of the absconding officials be auctioned to recover their losses.
