Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The city will get a floating restaurant on Upper Lake after the monsoons. The State Wetland Authority (SWA) has cleared the proposal of MP Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC) to convert its Lake Princess cruise into a floating restaurant.
The Boat Club, a unit of the corporation, operated cruise on Upper Lake till 2023 when National Green Tribunal (NGT) banned it, stating that it was polluting the water body.
According to a MPTDC official, they got the clearance of a floating restaurant from State Wetland Authority, EPCO, recently. “The floating restaurant will be stationary. Work is on to ensure that Upper Lake doesn’t get polluted. Most probably, it will become operational after monsoon,” official added.
The floating restaurant won’t have a kitchen. The food will be cooked at the kitchen of the Winds n Waves Restaurant of MPTDC located across the road from Boat Club. It will only have a pantry where food will be served after heating.
The liquid and solid waste of restaurant will not be discharged into Upper Lake but will be collected and handed over to Bhopal Municipal Corporation. There will be no toilets in the restaurant. The diners will be able to book tables online or walk-in.
The restaurant with 40 covers would be able to accommodate 100 guests. The facility of booking the entire restaurant for small parties will also be available.
