Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): What began as a joyful Rakshabandhan celebration in city’s Gandhi Nagar on Saturday ended in a double tragedy.
A 20-year-old man died after being electrocuted by a high-tension line and his grandmother in Raisen district passed away in shock after hearing the news.
Subhash Sen, originally from Raisen, had been living in Narela Shankari for two years, working at a salon with his maternal uncle. On Saturday evening, he visited his sister Nidhi to celebrate Rakhabandhan festival. After the ritual, she and her husband Vicky requested him to stay for dinner.
While chatting in a first-floor room, Subhash stepped out on the terrace on Saturday night, where an uncovered high-tension line runs dangerously close. It was lightly raining when the wire fatally jolted him. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Minutes later, his grandmother Tarabai (75) in Mand Kasia village collapsed and died after receiving the heartbreaking news. The family revealed that Nidhi herself had suffered burns at the same spot earlier this year. Despite repeated complaints to CM Helpline and residents offering to share relocation costs, the discom did not shift the line.
Residents say the same high-tension line had claimed a construction worker’s life last year. Gandhi Nagar police station incharge Brajendra Marskole said a case had been registered and further investigation was underway.
