PWD Minister Rakesh Singh inspects sewer line after complaints from residents |
Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Following numerous complaints from residents related to ongoing sewer line and Amrit Yojana 2.0 construction works between Katanga Tiraha and Gwarighat, State Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh conducted a surprise inspection at the site today.
Municipal commissioner Preeti Yadav, superintending engineer of Municipal Corporation Kamlesh Srivastava, and other concerned officials were also present during inspection.
Singh said various development works are being carried out in the city for the convenience of the public, in line with government's intentions. Among these, the sewer line work, which is going on all over the city, is causing considerable inconvenience to the residents.
Along with the sewer line, pipeline expansion work under Amrit Yojana 2.0 is also underway on this route. The residents’ complaints were being received about delays in both these projects, as well as issues with the quality of work.

A major concern was the restoration work after laying the sewer line, which was being done by simply backfilling with soil and debris. The minister said our endeavour is that all infrastructure projects, be it roads or other works, should be of high quality.
In case of negligence, strict action would be taken against whoever is responsible, he said. Singh emphasised that the road inspected today was slated to be built using white-topping technology.
If the road above the sewer line was not repaired, there was a risk of the road sinking in and developing potholes, which would also create problems for the construction of the white-topped road.
During inspection, it was found that the contractor carrying out the construction works had previously been served a notice by the Municipal Corporation. The officials were also sternly warned that if such work continues, action will be taken against both the contractor and the concerned officers.
