Narmadapuram (Madhya Pradesh): The process for electing the president of the District Congress Committee has begun to end internal fighting and strengthen the party at the grassroots.

Central observer of the party and retired IPS officer Ajoy Kumar, state observer Awdhesh Sisodiya, former minister Sukhdev Panse and Bhupendra Mohasa interacted with the party office-bearers to know their opinions.

Before holding talks with the party men, the observers held talks with media persons on Thursday.

They said the party that was out of power for a long time was trying to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots by electing a president of its district committee under Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan.

Ajoy Kumar said he got recognition in politics after completing his MBBS in Puducherry. He said after completing his studies, he passed the UPSC and became an IPS officer. Kumar said when he was posted in Jamshedpur and Patna he wiped out the criminals ruling the roost.

Ajay Devgn’s film Gangajal was about his story, the Congress leader said. He further said Ajay Devgn played the role of SP Amit Kumar, who was actually Ajoy Kumar in real life.

He said the district president would be elected on the basis of the opinion of the party workers of all four assembly constituencies. The DCC president will be given a free hand to work, he said, adding that the district presidents will be the members of the ticket distribution committee.

They will also have the right to elect the members of the district-level committee, he said. When he was told that there was no party office, he expressed surprise. He said a party office would be constructed before the next assembly election.

The observers will stay in the district for four days to interact with party men, he said. There is neither any Congress legislator nor an MP from the district, Kumar said.
