Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An unusual incident was reported from Madhya Pradesh's Rewa, where a newly married woman demanded her dead husband's sperm from doctors at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.
Reportedly, her husband died in a road accident when his bike collided with a divider and overturned. The accident resulted in severe injuries, and he died before reaching the hospital.
The wife refused his post-mortem and demanded his sperm so she can bear his child.
According to information, Jitendra Singh's bike collided with a divider near PTS crossing in Rewa. The on-lookers took him to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital but the doctors declared him dead. The police have asked the hospital staff to conduct post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the deceased's family got to know about the accident and reached the hospital. The wife refused the hospital staff to conduct post-mortem and rather asked for her husband's sperm. Notably, the sperm can be retrieve from a deceased person for up to 72 hours and this procedure is known as postmortem sperm retrieval (PMSR).
She then applied for the procedure but the hospital staff declined his plea. They mentioned that 48 hours had passed since his death, impacting the quality of the sperms and making the procedure complicated.
However, the wife remained adamant as she wanted to have her husband's sperm to have a child. The wife claimed that the hospital staff didn't have the proper equipment to preserve the sperm as she demanded the sperm a few hours after the accident.
After several hours of persuasion by the doctors, the wife ultimately agreed to proceed with the post-mortem.
Notably, the couple has been married for only four months.
