Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): The state-owned MP Power Transmission Company (MP Transco) has taken a significant technological leap by implementing advanced Fiber Optic Terminal Equipment (FOTE) technology for early detection of faults and real-time monitoring of the power supply in the substations.
Through this technology, communication, safety, and asset monitoring at the substation level are being enhanced to become faster, more reliable and more robust.
With its help, the temperature and condition of transformers and other critical equipment can be monitored quickly and accurately, MP Transco managing director Sunil Tiwari said.
This new technology has enabled the speed and accuracy of data transmission, and also it provides greater stability to the communication network as it is free from electromagnetic interference (EMI). This technology also strengthens the protection systems of our transmission elements, he said.
This initiative is not limited to meeting current technological needs, but is also a significant step toward the development of a future smart grid, Tiwari said.
Initially, FOTE technology has been deployed in selected Extra High Tension (EHT) substations.
In the next phases, it is planned to be expanded to all major transmission centres across Madhya Pradesh.
