MP January 28 Weather Update: Light Rain Likely In 15 Districts Including Bhopal, Indore On January 29; Mercury May Rise In February

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is set to experience its fourth spell of unseasonal rain due to a Western Disturbance. According to the Meteorological Department, drizzle is expected in around 15 districts, including Bhopal, Indore, and Gwalior, on January 29. However, no heavy rainfall is anticipated. The rain is likely to extend into early February, signaling a change in weather patterns.

Over the past four days, northern winds have caused a significant dip in temperatures across the state, leading to intense cold conditions. However, relief from the cold is expected from January 30 onwards, as temperatures are predicted to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during the day and night. The onset of rain will further alter the weather, moderating the winter chill.

Two Weather Systems in Four Days

The weather department has forecast two active Western Disturbances, one on January 29 and the other on February 1, which will influence the state's weather for several days. Senior meteorologist Dr. Vedprakash Singh stated that the effects of these disturbances would persist until February 4, particularly in the eastern and southern regions. Districts such as Rewa, Shahdol, Jabalpur, Sagar, Gwalior, Chambal, and Narmadapuram are likely to receive sporadic rainfall during this period.

January 28: Cold conditions will prevail during the night and morning, but sunny skies are expected during the day.

January 29: Light drizzle is anticipated in several districts, including Bhopal, Indore, Sehore, Guna, Shivpuri, and Rajgarh.

Recent Temperature Trends

Over the past week, southeastern winds had temporarily eased the cold conditions in Madhya Pradesh. However, since Friday, temperatures have fallen once again. Several cities recorded significantly low night temperatures on Sunday and Monday, with Kalyanpur in Shahdol being the coldest at 2.8°C. Other notable lows included Umaria (4.8°C), Singrauli’s Devra (5.3°C), and Mandla (6°C).

Among major cities, Gwalior registered the lowest temperature at 6.3°C, followed by Bhopal (8.3°C), Jabalpur (7.4°C), Indore (12.5°C), and Ujjain (11.2°C).

Historical January Weather Patterns

Bhopal: The capital has experienced extreme cold, with a record low of 0.6°C on January 18, 1935. Rainfall in January is also a regular feature, with the city recording 2 inches of rain in a single day on January 6, 2004, and a monthly maximum of 3.8 inches in 1948.

Indore: Indore’s coldest January temperature reached -1.1°C on January 16, 1935. The city has also witnessed heavy rain, with over 3 inches recorded on January 6, 1920, making it the wettest January day in history.
