Katni (Madhya Pradesh): A pregnant woman was allegedly gang raped and thrown into a 300 feet deep gorge in Katni on Tuesday.
This was a brutal attempt to kill the woman. Police have arrested both accused Pawan Burman and his cousin, Nigam Raikwar in connection with the crime.
According to reports, the victim was in a relationship with Pawan Burman. He allegedly exploited her under the plea of marriage and led her to pregnancy. When she informed Pawan, he began pressuring her to have an abortion.
On Sunday evening, Pawan took the woman to Telan Ghati in Damoh district on a bike with his cousin Nigam. There, they drugged her and took turns raping her.
Believing her to be unconscious the accused pushed her into a 300 feet gorge.
The victim regained consciousness and saw both men watching her from above. In pain, she hid in the bushes through the night.
The next morning, a group of pilgrims saw her and alerted the locals. Locals and the village sarpanch rescued her and took her to health centre, from where she was referred to Jabalpur Medical Hospital due to her critical condition.
The police acted quickly after receiving a missing complaint from her mother on July 13.
A case has been registered under sections of rape, attempted murder, SC-ST Act, and POCSO.
The matter exposes the misuse of trust and the horrors hidden behind so called love relationships.
