MP High Court Sends Fake Passport Offender Ahmad Al Makki To Country's Largest Detention Centre In Assam

Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): The Gwalior Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has made a significant verdict in the case of Ahmad Al Makki, who was caught entering India using a fake passport in 2014.

The court has ordered that he be moved to the largest detention center in the country, located in Assam's Goalpara.

Initially, he claimed to be a citizen of Saudi Arabia, but the Saudi Arabian Embassy denied this. He later claimed to be from Bangladesh. However, Al Makki's nationality has not been confirmed yet.

2014: First sentence 

According to information, the case dates back to 2014 when Ahmad Al Makki was arrested by Gwalior Police at the Bajarai Railway Station. In September 2014, he was sentenced to three years in prison for entering India with a fake passport. After completing his sentence in 2017, he was kept in a temporary detention center at the Paddav police station for nine months.

2018: Second sentence

In 2018, Al Makki managed to escape from the detention center by tricking a police officer who had accompanied him to a mosque. He was later caught in Hyderabad, leading to another case being filed against him. He was sentenced to another three years for escaping. After completing this sentence, the district collector ordered him to be sent to a temporary detention center at Gwalior Central Jail.

Makki’s lawyer challenges verdict

Al Makki's lawyer, Akram Khan, challenged this in the High Court, arguing that the district collector did not have the authority to create a temporary detention center or keep him in jail after completing his sentence and only the centre can decide that. The court sought a response from both the central and state governments within 24 hours. After the hearing, the court ordered that Ahmad Al Makki be moved to the Goalpara detention center in Assam.
