Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Presenting a united front, Congress’ former candidate from Datia Avdhesh Nayak has assured his full support to party’s new candidate and his replacement Rajendra Bharti on Tuesday. Initially, Congress had fielded Nayak from Datia, however a few days later, the party cancelled his ticket and replaced him with Bharti.

The duo have vowed to defeat Home Minister and BJP candidate Narottam Mishra.

Avdhesh Nayak, who left BJP in August this year and joined Congress called Narottam Mishra a ‘dictator’ and said that small differences need to be forgotten as there is a bigger goal to achieve (defeating Mishra). He also hailed Bharti as his elder brother.

Nayak also made some serious allegations against Narottam Mishra for lodging fake complaints against him and his family members.

'Datia suffered because of him'

He said, “The MLA and home minister Narottam Mishra has created a reign of terror and is acting like a dictator. Datia has suffered because of him and I also suffered while in BJP. My big brother Rajendra Bharti and his family are also witnesses. They framed several Congress leaders and even me and my family in false cases.”

Notably, Congress had announced Nayak as its candidate from Datia in its first list. However, in the second list the opposition party replaced him with Bharti who lost to Mishra in the 2018 assembly elections by just 2,600 votes.

After the replacement, there were speculations of resentment from Nayak who has been a RSS functionary and has strong influence in Datia.

'Mishra will go back to Dabra'

Talking to the media, Bharti said, “Me and brother Avdhesh have come together to fight and end the politics of enmity, corruption, atrocities and torture by the home minsiter. He (Mishra) is not from here, he is from Dabra and this time he will go back there.”

Nayak further said that he is inspired by the policies of the Congress party and also hailed Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.

“This is why I joined Congress. Though the party named me as its candidate in the first list and later changed it, I have no regrets because our goal is bigger. Our goal is to remove this dictator Narottam Mishra from Datia and send him back to Dabra,” he said.
