Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): New faces from varied backgrounds are making waves in the political arena in this assembly election. Free Press had the opportunity to engage with some of these newcomers to gain insight into their budding careers.
People still recognise me as ‘Judge Sahab’
Prakash Uikey, a retired judge, who is stepping into the political arena for the very first time as the BJP candidate from Pandhurna, said, “Embarking on the political journey has been a smooth transition for me, primarily because my unwavering passion for serving the community has always been my driving force.
My commitment to providing free coaching to students and healthcare services to the less fortunate has been a pivotal part of my life. My constituents, who knew me during my tenure as a district judge, have extended their steadfast support.
They see in me someone well-versed in the legal matters concerning the tribal community, and they trust that I can be a valuable resource for them. In their eyes, I am still ‘Judge Sahab.’ Interestingly, no one in my family has been in politics before, my wife is a district judge too.
My decision to choose politics over my judicial career received unanimous support from my family.”
Work for betterment of tribals
BJP candidate, Dr Vijay Anand Maravi, posted as assistant superintendent in Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical Hospital, Jabalpur, said, “I have consistently supported the tribal community, even when I was not actively involved in politics.
The party informed me one month ago that they had chosen me as their candidate from Bichhiya. My dedication towards the welfare of the tribal community has always been at the forefront of my efforts. As a doctor, providing quality healthcare will remain my top priority in the future.”
Career as an actor was at its peak
Vikram Mastal, a Bollywood actor, entering politics for the first time as a Congress candidate from Budhni, said, “I had never imagined that I would venture into the world of politics.
My career as an actor was soaring high; my Netflix debut is scheduled to happen soon. However, the call to serve the people has always burned within me. I can’t turn a blind eye to the plight of my people.
In Bollywood, I entertained people, and now, I’m drawing upon my experience in the film industry, but with a different purpose: to serve and assist the people.
What’s truly heart-warming is the unwavering support from my family and the people from all walks of my constituency. They see me as one of their own, and their encouragement and belief in my ability to make a difference inspired this new chapter in my life.”
Kamal Singh ChouhanA Tragedy Made Me Join Politics
Congress candidate from Ashta, Kamal Singh Chouhan, who left his job as a teacher to join politics said, “When my elder brother, who was actively engaged in politics, tragically passed away, I made a momentous decision to join politics.
Despite being deeply dedicated to my role as a teacher, I promptly resigned from my position and embraced the world of politics. The resounding support of the people was nothing short of astounding, and it became a powerful force propelling my journey in the political arena.”
