Sagar (Madhya Pradesh): A newlywed couple from Sagar separated shortly after tying the knot on Thursday.

The bride told the groom that she never wanted the marriage and had only gone through with it due to family pressure. She further said that if he took her home, they would have to live like brother and sister. Stunned, the groom took a U-turn and dropped her home.

According to information, the groom, a resident of Bada Bazaar in Sagar, got married to a young woman from Lalitpur. The wedding was arranged by both families and took place at a popular marriage garden on Bhopal Road. As per the groom’s request, the bride’s family traveled to Sagar with relatives to attend the ceremony.

But just a few kilometers after leaving the wedding venue in a car, the bride shocked the groom by saying, “I didn’t want this marriage. I came only because of my family’s pressure. I wore the garland and took the wedding vows, but if you take me home, I won’t be your wife — I’ll live like a sister to you.”

Stunned by her words, the groom immediately turned the car around and returned to the marriage garden. The bride’s family was still there, and the groom told them everything. After a serious discussion between both families, they decided to end the marriage with mutual consent.

Girl's family appologises

Sources say the bride may have been in love with someone else, but her family didn’t agree to that relationship. On the wedding day, the bride reportedly arrived without mehndi (henna) on her hands, which raised concerns among some guests.

She even locked herself in a room and agreed to take the wedding vows only after being pressured by her relatives.

The groom’s friends had warned him earlier, but he went through with the marriage due to fear of embarrassment in front of family and guests. However, after hearing the bride’s words during the car ride, he realized that continuing the marriage would be a mistake.

The bride’s family later apologized and offered to return all wedding gifts and even pay for the expenses. But the groom’s family refused the money and said they only wanted to ensure that no legal trouble would arise in the future.

Both families reportedly signed written statements and made a video recording to confirm the peaceful end of the marriage.
