Narmadapuram (Madhya Pradesh): The Betul district panchayat under Narmadapuram division has introduced a unique initiative, SHG to Startup Campaign, aimed at empowering women through entrepreneurship in rural areas. Launched in July 2024 under guidance of District Panchayat CEO Akshat Jain, the campaign encourages young entrepreneurs to partner with women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to establish and run joint ventures.
The initiative has already gained momentum with two proposals approved and investments totalling Rs 3.1 crore secured. One proposal involves establishment of a unit in Jamthi village by Betul Bamboo Aajeevika Private Limited (an SHG startup) and Upadhi Social Venture (a youth entrepreneur company) to manufacture bamboo-based dental hygiene products. This project is backed by an investment of Rs 1.6 crore.
The second proposal, with an investment of Rs 1.5 crore, focuses on setting up a unit in Arul village through Rajita Art and Heritage Private Limited, a joint startup of SHG women and young entrepreneurs, to produce traditional art-based home décor and fashion products.
The companies presented their Intent to Invest letters during Regional Industry Conclave held in Narmadapuram on Saturday. The campaign facilitates SHG women in registering their startups and forming partnerships with young entrepreneurs who provide business expertise, mentorship and operational support.
Entrepreneurs also ensure monthly income for SHG founders and employees and prioritise hiring SHG women or their family members for unskilled and semi-skilled roles. CEO Jain highlighted that the initiative not only ensures a steady income for SHG women but also equips them with marketing and business skills. Young entrepreneurs benefit from the opportunity to grow as job creators and social entrepreneurs. This campaign aligns with the objectives of Lakhpati Didi and Startup India programmes.
