Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Members of OBC Mahasabha staged a demonstration here on Monday demanding restoration of the 13% OBC reservation in government services, which is currently being put on hold. Several Congress leaders and party workers also joined the protest.

The protesters took out a rally from Jawahar Chowk and marched towards the CM House to lay siege to it, however, they were stopped by the cops at Rangmahal Square.

The protesters claimed that more than half the state’s population belongs to backward classes, but they remain deprived of opportunities in government administration, police, the election system and even the private sector.

The OBC leaders claimed backward classes constitute more than half of the population of the state and they have been denied rightful representation in government administration, policing, the election system, and even the private sector.

National core committee member Vaibhav Singh claimed that the state government is jeopardizing the future of thousands of youths by withholding 13% reserved posts,  despite them clearing the recruitment exams. The youths who have qualified will have to wait till the government decides to give the appointment on the posts being put on hold, said Singh.

Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar  stated that the state government claims to support OBCs but its actions speak otherwise.
