Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is currently experiencing its strongest monsoon system of the season.
For the first time this year, the weather department has issued red, orange, and yellow alerts for heavy and very heavy rainfall in 53 districts of the state.
All 15 districts of the Indore and Ujjain divisions (Malwa-Nimar region) are under either a red or orange alert for July 27. These areas are expected to receive up to 8 inches of rain within 24 hours.
Districts including Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Narmadapuram, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar divisions will also see heavy rainfall. In the Chambal division, light rain is expected in Morena and Bhind.
On July 28, very heavy rainfall is again expected in many districts, including Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Raisen, Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Dewas, Agar-Malwa, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Jhabua, and Dhar.
A yellow alert has been issued for other places like Bhopal, Sehore, Narmadapuram, Harda, Jabalpur, and many more, where moderate to heavy rainfall is expected.
Meanwhile, rain has caused damage in some areas. In Betul, due to continuous rain, the insulator of the overhead electric wire on the Delhi-Chennai railway line burst. The cable guard broke and fell on the track, affecting train services for about four and a half hours. More than 12 trains were delayed.
In Khandwa, due to rising water levels in the Narmada River, the gates of Indira Sagar Dam and Omkareshwar Dam were opened early Sunday morning to release extra water.
According to the weather department, a low-pressure area, two monsoon troughs, and two cyclonic circulations are active in the state. This system will continue to bring rain over the next four days, with rainfall expected to continue into early August.
