Based on this, the Public Works Department (PWD), along with other agencies, will prepare a detailed work plan. The PWD aims to complete the road survey within six months.
Until 2003, the condition of roads in Madhya Pradesh was poor. After coming to power, the BJP government prioritised infrastructure development, which has now expanded the state’s road network to more than 1.5 lakh kilometres.
However, the demand for new roads remains high. In the recent monsoon session of the state assembly, most petitions were related to roads, bridges, and culverts.

How will the master plan work?
The master plan will help identify where new roads need to be built, which roads should be widened, and where better connectivity is required. It will also make coordination between different road construction agencies easier.
Apart from the PWD, other departments like Urban Development and Housing, Panchayat and Rural Development, and Mandi Board also build roads. The master plan will bring uniformity in their work.
