Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Over 150 BJP corporators from across Madhya Pradesh gathered in Bhopal on Sunday to protest the state government’s proposal to increase the minimum time limit for moving a no-confidence motion against chairpersons of local bodies, from three years to four-and-a-half years.
Corporators voiced concern that the proposed change would weaken democratic checks within municipal bodies and potentially allow unchecked power to local chairpersons.
The group aims to represent the collective voice of elected representative
The corporators met under the newly formed Corporator Association, headed by Abhishek Khare of Tikamgarh. The group aims to represent the collective voice of elected municipal representatives.
Pawan Suryavansi, BJP corporator from Parasia Municipality, Chhindwada, said, “If the duration is extended, chairpersons could function like dictators. Our constitutional rights as corporators will be undermined and development work could suffer.”
