Balagahat (Madhya Pradesh): Over 65 residents of Ratta village in the Bharveli police station area of Balaghat district fell ill after consuming Pani Puri on the night of January 23. The victims, including children, women, and men, experienced severe vomiting and diarrhea, leading to widespread panic in the village.
Currently, 54 people are receiving treatment at the district hospital, with one child in critical condition being prepared for transfer to a higher medical facility.
MLA Madhu Bhagat of Paraswada, Collector Mrinal Meena, and SP Nagendra Singh visited the hospital to oversee the treatment and instructed Civil Surgeon Dr. Nilay Jain and Chief Medical Officer to ensure quality care.
Collector Meena has also ordered action under the Food Safety Act against the vendor responsible. MLA Bhagat criticized the unchecked sale of roadside food and called for regular inspections by the Food Safety Department.
He also vowed to recommend the transfer of negligent officials. Health camps have been set up in the village for further testing. Dr. Jain confirmed that the incident stemmed from a vendor who started selling Pani Puri only 15 days ago.
