Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A 22-year-old woman allegedly threw acid on her 21-year-old friend over ‘jealousy’ in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur. The accused has been identified as Ishita Sahu.
The matter pertains to Awadhpuri Colony under Gaurighat police station area and the incident occurred around 10:30 pm on Sunday night.
According to police, Ishita went to Shraddha’s house and called her outside, saying she had a surprise for her. When Shraddha stepped out and spoke briefly with Ishita, she turned to go back inside. At that moment, Ishita threw acid on her.
Shraddha suffered around 50% burns and is currently being treated at a private hospital. Doctors say her condition is stable.
Accused are absconding
Hearing her screams, Shraddha’s mother rushed out and found her daughter’s clothes burned. She quickly took her inside and poured water on her to ease the burning.
Shraddha’s family has alleged that Ishita’s mother was also involved in the crime. The police have arrested Ishita, but her house is locked and her parents are on the run.

According to Shraddha’s mother, Jyotsna Das, Shraddha and Ishita were not in talking for nearly a year. She claimed that Ishita was jealous of Shraddha, who had a job and a stable life, while Ishita’s family was unemployed. Ishita allegedly wanted everything that Shraddha had.
Two months ago, Shraddha had even blocked Ishita’s number. Ishita’s mother had recently called Shraddha and asked her to speak with Ishita, but Shraddha replied that she was busy working three jobs and would talk when she had time.
Police are investigating the case and searching for Ishita’s parents.
